There was a mouse problem, and while we did not see many mice, this was manifested in an overwhelming stench of urine within a few minutes of heating up the oven. Landlord attempted to clean the oven once or twice without the problem being fixed. More seriously, I had a suitcase in the basement of the house. A couple of months after moving in, I found this suitcase missing. I discovered that at least one item in the suitcase had been discarded, my clothes were in a large trashbag with other clothes in the basement, and the suitcase was unaccounted for. It took months to get the suitcase back, which was in his possession, after my lease had ended and after several occasions of Mr. Merchant literally screaming at me on the phone. Not living in Philadelphia, he also would go several months between giving us bills for the utilities. He tried to include the late fees in what we owed him until I pointed this out. I would recommend strongly against boarding with him.
Has an anger problem. Seems extremely inexperienced and unprofessional as a landlord. Store your belongings in his property's basement at your own risk. Property had a mouse infestation problem when I was a resident which rendered the oven unusable due to overwhelming mouse urine odor. Be lucky he accepts personal checks now. Previously he demanded only cashiers checks in order to evade taxes
