Great landlord, would highly recommend. Place comes fully furnished which is great as a college student. Temple Nest apartments are some of the nicest you will find in the Temple area and cannot beat the price.
Truly the worst landlord I've ever lived with. Not only was he a bad landlord, he was also racist, sexist, and creepy to the girls he rented to. Issues were never fixed regardless of many times you told him or his maintenance men. When my friends and I moved in a door was off its hinges, there was mold everywhere, the front door couldn't lock, the ice machine didn't work, and the old tenants left tons of gross furniture that Tom didn't remove. Throughout the course of us living there, we had issues with just about every appliance and feature of the apartment. On several occasions Tom's henchmen were in our apartment without any sort of notice. Upon moving out he charged us for a missing remote even though we know we left it on the coffee table. We spoke to other friends who lived with him and they all said they were charged for a missing remote event hough they swore they left it in the apartment. All in all, do NOT live with Tom Citro he will screw you over and attempt to screw you as well if you're a girl.
Tom and his wife Donna make a great team! Every maintenance request was fulfilled within 24 hours. He allowed us to move in early and stay a day later than our lease, on short notice, because my roommates and I were in a pinch. Although his apartments are pricey, they're very nice and I couldn't ask for a better realtor! During my stay, there was a fire across the street and Tom even negotiated with the Fire department so we could all go back in for an hour and gather our belongings. Would rent from him again!
Tom was a great landlord! When anything was broken he was always quick to have his crew fix it asap. Besides the one time when someone came to view the apartment and weren't alerted (which really wasn't that big of a deal anyway), everything was great. I loved our apartment, it was in a safe area and well-maintained with good security. Definitely would recommend living at Temple Nest.
Highly recommend temple nest. It’s great location and the staff was always accommodating. Tom and Donna seem to go out of their way to respond as soon as possible whenever I had an issue. Definetly recommend these apartments to my friends. Look forward to living here my senior year.
Been living at TN for a few years now. Never had serious issues, but one time. The issue was resolved within a few hours, and contractors were working on it through the whole week to make sure issue is fully resolved and not going to appear again. Generally, the apartment looked nice and clean even though it has been built and utilized for a while before I moved in. Maintenance responds 24/7 whenever there is an issue. I have never got locked out personally, but know people who had that experience and got maintenance come out quick, even during the night time on the weekend. Safety is one of the most important factors for me therefore the area of North Philly might be a concern, however I never had an issue (besides small things like packages get stolen or lost when left outside, etc). Also, walls are pretty thin so you will hear people upstairs if they are loud. I did not get too much contact with the landlord personally because everything was handled through one of the employees, however I also never had issues with the leasing itself.
I have lived in Temple Nest for 4 years now. Tom, Donna and the Temple Nest maintenance crew have given myself and my roommates a great experience regarding housing. Whenever there is an issue I would call Tom and one of the maintenance guys was there within an hour resolve any issue. The units are nicely furnished and are nicely built. Hardwood floors, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances (including dishwasher), 42" tv, washer/ dryer, outside surveillance system, complete security system, the list goes on. The bottom line is you will not find a nicer or safer place to live off campus at a better rate with kinder landlords.
If you google Tom Citro it’ll all make sense! Guy is a total slumlord and a total creep around his female tenants! The security system made me feel safe, but knowing Tom had access to my apartment was cringeworthy. Appliances never work and every time I send a request it’s labeled as “non urgent”. Other tenants in the building have a dog and the cigarettes that buildup on the steps up to the unit are disgusting. There’s a reason Tom and Donna Citro can’t lease outside of college housing...... I would not recommend this place! You can get way cheaper and less creepy a block away!
I had a great experience at temple nest apartments. When I moved in the apartment was clean and repainted. Any issues I’ve had with neighbors, clogged drains, burnt out lights or smoke detector batteries, I emailed the landloard and they replied within 24 hrs and the issue was resolved in a timely manner. The location is great and there is plenty of secuirity from automation locking doors, advent security in the apartment and plenty of street light to keep peace of mind. I would recommend this apartment complex to everyone.
Upon being honorably discharged from the United State Marine Corps, I was worried about what my next living situation would be. I toured multiple apartments in the Temple area. I wasn’t too pleased with the prices due to the condition of some of the units. Another issue I had was not having furniture here. Temple Nest Apartments was the solution to my problem. The apartment that I toured took my breath away. I initially thought the price would be to much for what I was renting. Needless to say, I was wrong! The price was around the same as the other apartments, that were out of date and not furnished. The landlords are great and down to earth people. Mr. & Mrs. Citro explained the application and lease very well. Living here for the past three years I have nothing but great things to say about both. They are always very responsive and professional. Temple Nest is a great place to live and I highly recommend it!
The apartments look great in photos and during a tour but were terrible after living there for about a month. Ice machine was broken when we moved in and never fully fixed after several requests. Washer was constantly broken and maintenance never told us what was wrong with just not to use it (went on for several months before fixed, had to use a laundromat or do it at home over breaks). Doors had broken handles and were told "those aren't an issue" even though they impacted our safety and sense of security. Several other more minor issues were a hassle to get fixed. Talked to other tenants who had similar but less extreme problems. Tom himself was an odd man. When meeting with him on a few occasions he made sexist and racist comments about people he saw walking by which made my roommates and I uncomfortable. He never made direct eye contact with you but always on your face somewhere..? Like your forehead or chin. I know that sounds odd but it's a weird thing when you see your landlord often. He was pretty good at responding to emails right away but that doesn't mean issues were fixed right away. His maintenance team was nice and pleasant to work with though. The main positive was how close the apartments are to Temple. Just across the street from the Fresh Grocer and near a few bars as well. Overall experience was subpar and would only recommend if you're in a pinch and can't find another apartment.
Overall, I highly recommend Temple Nest Apartments. Sure, Tom is little crazy, what landlord isn't? Tom and Donna do not communicate well, and there were some problems with getting a washing machine fixed. Shane, the "on the spot" property manager is great and very helpful. Pros: Location and Security. Also the fact that it comes with it's own furniture. Big thumbs up for that! Cons: Lack of communication with Tom and Donna. TRASH!!! Not enough space out front for trash cans that are always overflowing and smelly.
Do not come here! The cutting of corners resulted in my apartment being flooded at 1 am water was coming out of vents and light fixtures, landlord sent no help until the next day and we were stuck to try and mop up water, turn off water, and hope there was no electrical damage by ourselves. The security system also doesnt work and our sink has leaked multiple times. Avoid
Tom Citro will tell you whatever you want to hear in order to get you to go away. Donna Citro has a huge attitude problem and talks to students like they are all idiots. Tom and Donna are not on the same page and will give you completely different answers when trying to solve a problem. The Henry Group, the company who Tom and Donna withdrawal rent through, is rude and unprofessional. Our apartment was suppose to be done on August 1st, but we did not move in until November 5th. The apartment was still far from done, and any requests were seen as "not life threatening." Tom Citro loves the drama and will talk badly about his tenants to each other, their families, and contractors. Tom and Donna are the most unprofessional people I have ever met, their units are not worth all the headache.
Tom and Donna Citro are truly some of the worst landlords I have ever experienced, it is a shock they are able to run a business. I would not recommend Temple Nest Apartments to my worst enemy. Do not be fooled by your first glace of the unit, IT IS NOT WORTH IT. Tom will tell you one thing and then do the complete opposite, Donna will give you a major attitude even if you simply say hello. While the buildings look nice at first glance they are riddled with problems, nothing ever works, and good luck getting Tom or one of his minions to fix it [correctly] anytime soon.
Overall the apartment was very nice and I felt as safe as I could feel outside of Temple. Tom is a reasonable guy. He installed some window bars and checked up on the security system from time to time to make sure it was working. I think him and his wife Donna genuinely want the tenants to have a great experience. He's lenient with parties as long as you're not damaging anything, which is more than fair. There was some lag between contact and response when we had issues, but for the most part things were taken care of. If you really need something fixed and you catch him on the street you can talk to him like an adult, then he'll usually handle it faster. I lived here for 3 years and I still can't think of anywhere else at Temple I would've rather lived.
The apartments are beautiful on the outside, but Tom the landlord cuts corners wherever possible and the infrastructure is sloppy. It is very expensive and it will take multiple emails and calls in order to get him to help you. After we moved out, we kept emailing him about our security deposits and after a month (one month is the law), we were ready to go to court but he told us some excuse and gave us the full deposit back. Awful fucking place. Oh yeah, he was also charged with attempt to evade taxes back in '98. Top notch guy
I spent my junior and senior years in a Temple Nest Apartment on 15th street and found it to be a great transition from living in the dorms. We were the first tenants to stay in the building, the apartment was beautiful, and we had barely any issues. Evan the times when we did have to get our dryer repaired or our smoke detector replaced, Tom Citro, the landlord was able to fix them in a timely manner. The location was safe, close to the grocery, and very popular with students. My roommates and I also took full advantage of the beautiful kitchen, alarm system 42"TV and washer/dryer. Tom was responsive when we had problems and very friendly when we saw him on the street. I'd recommend this apartment building to anyone looking for a high quality and safe apartment.
He is pretentious, unresponsive, unfair, defensive, and cheap. He will put on a good show to reel you in, but will cut corners once you've signed. Doing my best to be objective here, but most of his tenants are Asian women... In an effort to be relatable, he often comes off creepy. He's definitely not the WORST, but a lot of promises go unfulfilled.
The temple nest apartment complex experienced several robberies during my time here, and it wasn't until at least 3 apartments were robbed did he decide to do something about it. Also, he never answers phone calls or emails and is impossible to get a hold of. Girls were locked out of the apartment late at night, and he told them they would have to wait even though he has a flyer stating "call if locked out" with his phone number (along with others that never answer). Overall, he does his business dealings really shady, and he is known for not giving the security deposit back without giving a legitimate reason.
I am going to try and be as objective with this response as possible. When my roommates and I first moved into our apartment there were holes all in one of our walls because the tenants before had a huge dart board on the wall. It was not until well after we moved in did he correct that. The building is poorly well insulated and the walls are paper thin. You can literally hear the tenants both above and below you, if you happen to be in a middle floor such as myself. The units are not big by any means and he constantly confuses myself and my two other roommates although this is my second year living here. I will be honest this is definitely a safe option given that his apartments are on a well-lit street directly across from dorms, another huge apartment building, and shares a street with Oxford Village. I personally think he is full of crap. I hope this helps you all.
He does not respond to any emails and will not fix anything in the apartment. He will argue that nothing is wrong or tell you repeatedly that he came to fix it, or will, but never will. Avoid Temple Nest at all costs. Google his name and you will find a federal tax evasion case against him.
