Philadelphia, PA,
The house wasn’t ready when we moved in. Broken cabinets, missing trim, not cleaned properly, ceiling were not painted, wrong toilet seats, missing toilet paper/towel holders, dirty ceiling fans. Since most of those issues have been resolved, there hasn’t been many issues.
This company takes advantage of college students do not rent from them!!!!!!!!
I lived with MK for six months before my current landlord bought our housing. When we were initially supposed to move in there were cockroaches, like a lot. We ended up having to move in two weeks later than we planned, which was a pain because it was difficult for us to coordinate. Once we did move in, there were still hundreds of cockroaches crawling around our apartment. We were told that there would be a cleanup crew to deep clean our apartment, no one was ever sent, and our emails asking about a cleanup crew were never answered. Also, our water pressure was very low, when I would turn on my sink there was a small stream of water that came out, very ineffective when washing hands. We told MK time and again that this was an issue, and after coming to check it out one time, they failed to do anything about it. Around a month or two in my roommates walls were dripping with water and we realized that the rain water from outside was going into their wall and in their rooms. When this happened we called MK and they came out and cut off part of the wall that was growing mold, then replaced it with a small piece of drywall without painting it or anything. It is a real eyesore. Another issue we had with MK is them coming over unannounced. We were not notified on multiple occasions when they planned tours for our unit. I don't have very high standards, but they were very unprofessional with us. I don't think that MK is a bad company, but I believe that they knew they were going to sell our unit, which in turn caused them to put us on the back burner.
They are great if u make a request it’ll get done. i do have a few problems w them but it’s more personal.
Overall good experience, replaced broken dishwasher, fixed locks on doors, fixed electrical problem
Incredibly unprofessional and unreliable. I would discourage signing any contracts with them
MK is my mgmt company. I was ignorant of the process of a mgmt company vs. a landlord. We don’t have contact with the landlord, but whenever I have an issue, I come to MK, and they right away contact my landlord, notify my roommates and I of the process, and get things straightened out. Will be living here for our 3rd year! Thank you MK!
Tenant moved in on August 10, 2019. Family and tenant were not able to stay at 1718 Arlington Street for more than 30 minutes due to a horrible smell causing headaches to all. Tenant and family contacted MK Management in person and via email. Tenant asked for a working dehumidifier(their dehumidifier was leaking and broke) Tenant asked for MK Management to clean all the trash, dust, rusty paint cans, doors with mold and dirt etc. Management said they would do this but did not. Tenant returned 2 days later with smell remaining. Tenant and family contacted MK Management again with no response to cleaning the mold and dirt from basement. etc..As a result tenant and family over the next week cleaned the basement(over `10 bags of trash, etc) and provided a working dehumidifier. We bleached walls in basement and did everything we could to rectify mold and smell issues. Sadly mold remained in basement and on September 30 tenant had to move out of house due to sickness. Tenant is under doctor care at this time. Tenant and family contacted MK Management throughout these 2 months. Now MK Management is threatening to take us to court. Legally tenant had right to move out of house due to house caused him sickness.
There was mold and they never came to fix it.
Very good overall, just MK could improve on their maintenance requests
They just take advantage of the power the have and take forever to fix anything
All around solid. Somethings need work but they’ll be ok
It's been two years since I moved out from one of their apartments, however, the unlawfully withheld security deposit was never returned. They do not respond any of emails. They do not even have basic decency to leave a courtesy email. STAY AWAY FROM MK APARTMENTS. THEY ARE LIKE LEACHES. THEY TAKE EACH AND EVERY PENNY OF YOUR SECURITY DEPOSIT IF NOT ASK FOR MORE.
MK is terrible with responding to our maintenance requests. Some of the issues we had addressed the day of move in took 2.5 months to fix. They often times deleted requests or marked them as completed when they weren't. Emails are sometimes not answered until a week after being sent. 95% of the time we call we are promised a call back and don't receive one. House was dirty on move in and our washer had mold in it, cabinets and handles in kitchen fell off and were not repaired, security system was broken. Our dishwasher and sink flooded and were not fixed for several days. Floors in downstairs bedrooms flooded from the foundation and STILL haven't had anything done other than sending us a singular fan to continuously run on them which drove up our electric bill. This happened over a month ago. Anytime we try and contact them about a major issue we are avoided, not called back, rarely emailed back, and someone will stop by to see our issue, admit it is a serious issue, but yet still not come back with a solution.
SAVE. YOUR. MONEY. MK is the worst management in North Philadelphia. Not only do they scam their tenants and steal every penny, A FEW of their employees have serious attitude issues towards their tenants. They’re extremely unprofessional, they never communicate with each other so everything gets lost in translation, and they NEVER get to the maintenance requests. The dryer and oven have not been working for TWO months. YEt, they want everything to get done on THEIR time but WILL NOT get anything done as soon as possible. The best part is, as soon as our washer stopped working and they said they’d send an “urgent” email about it, a week later, nothing happened. My roommate wrote a review about it and a day after, MK reached out to her about the issue and EVEN ASKED HER TO TAKE DOWN THE REVIEW. What company tells their own customers to take down bad reviews? Do your f*cking job right and you wouldn’t have so many bad reviews. We have a RIGHT to tell people the TRUTH. I hope MK sees this review in hopes of getting our old maintenance requests done and apologizing for their TERRIBLE service. Never again. Save your money, kids.
This company is awful. Will take all of your security deposit with no explanation then you are forced to take them to court. Never responds to emails and takes forever for maintenance. People that work there are scumbags and do not put your best interest forward. Asked multiple times for a copy of the lease and what can be done before move out to receive the security deposit back and after multiple emails I had no response and they still kept 85% of the deposit. Dishonest and criminal people, company should not be associated with any university.
This is a dirty, scummy company, with the intention of gouging innocent college students who don't know any better. They have absolutely no respect for their tenants, and treat them as less because of their age and their little knowledge about renting. They have repeatedly broken their lease about the condition of the apartment, promising a finished, professionally cleaned place, and even charge you for it, but always weasel their way out of it due to the vagueness of the contract. Our apartment was not finished, infested with ants, had trash and wood everywhere, even after being told we had a 6 day delay of move in. Leases begin in August and they begin showing your house to a mass amount of students in October, leaving you about 2 months of privacy in your home. Other tenants have said maintenance requests can take 3 weeks or more. You are not allowed to have any contact with the landlord or their maintenance or cleaning staff. If you are a college student who doesn't care how much money you're spending, the quality of your apartment, or the service these people give you, then go ahead. The only positives would be that you will most likely be surrounded by other college students as well. This is not a proper leasing company by any means. It is specifically created and geared toward college students with the intention of wringing the loan money out of them. And again, absolutely, NO respect for their tenants.
They suck, don't use MK. They don't take their tenants seriously since most are college students so they don't take their business seriously. Will never rent from them again
Companies like MK expanded in 2016-2017 but did not adapt properly, they b ought my Temple University Apartment from Cross River Realty and became our landlords, they are sloppy and terrible. Everything is always a problem, rodents never taken care of, bugs, cracks in the infrastructure. Horrible experience. Can't wait to move out.
I do not like the fact that it takes days for things to get done. If it is a priority then it needs to get done immediately. Also, the girl in the office has a horrible attitude and makes the tenants feel dumb for asking for the landlord to come and perform different tasks.
I would say overall these are good apartments and management company. I was looking for a cheap place to keep my stuff and to rest my head at night. For this, the apartment was great, prime location, cheap, and did its job. Worst thing, was the apartment itself. Of course, you get what you pay for. Which is what I always wrote it off as. But Mk is great to deal with and their workers are always total bros. Personally, I think any issues with the property that came up were a lot easier to deal with because Mk handled it very professionally and respectfully. Definitely recommend!!!
We had minimal issues and they handled everything within a quick time frame.
House was not best quality, built the house quick just to get us moved which caused lack in quality
MK Management is a great place for students to find housing. I can honestly say they care about their customers as most other groups look to take advantage of students. The apartments I have seen have always been in tip top shape and there have been absolutely no sanitation experience. Absolutely the best place to rent from on campus for both customer service and quality.
DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!!! STAY AWAY! They started showing the apartment two weeks into our lease. They told us we had to paint the whole apartment to get our security deposit. We did and they kept 500 dollars of each of our deposits. My bedroom window was smashed in the middle of winter. It took them more than 2 weeks to fix it.
Charged for everything, even people writing on the cement outside. Rude every single time we talked to them, never even answered the issues just always worried about themselves. Illegally discarded our signed lease. People just show up constantly, even was walked in on when I made it clear I had no clothes on. Would never ever recommend them to anyone who wants to be happy.0
I leased my apartment under this management company for 2 years and it was one of the worst experiences of life. Nickled and dimed me and my roommates, failed to give proper 24 hour notice for entering the property/showing the property, took weeks to repair issues, took days to a week to respond to email or call concerns. Their leasing agents badmouthed us to future tenants. Didn't have a functioning front door knob and they took almost a month to finally resolve the issue... our house could've been broken into. If you rent from them don't expect any of your security deposit back because they charge an obscene amount of money for cleaning, painting, etc. even if you do a majority of the work yourself.
Take a minute to give them a call. They are always so willing to help and make any process easy and painless. They made living away from home in college enjoyable and memorable.
It is run by a bunch of idiots. The one girl is named Lizabeth which isn't a name. That is how dumb they are.
FRAUD ALERT - MK does NOT even has the registration with PA Dept of State to do business in PA! There is a formal complaint with Temple off campus housing for over 10 students who ALL had to move and lost $2000 a piece ($20,000) due to leases for apartments where there was no cert of occupancy and L and I violations. Check it our for yourself- call TEMPLE!
