My last landlord bought our duplex after our 1st year with the previous owner who charged up $550 per month including water. When Mike took over he promised he wouldn't raise our rent when we re-sign and he would make a lot of improvements on our property. He made us feep heard and really seemed concerned with our feelings on the property. Well that was all an act. The month after he bought the place our lease was up for renewal. He raised the rent by $110- to $660- for both apartments which forced out our HUD dependant neighbor (a single mother with 3 kids). We had no where to go so we signed a lease thinking at least he would make those improvements he promised. What he actually did was completely renovate the empty unit- which is great- but he never made any improvements to our unit in the entire time that we lived there yet we paid the same amount as the nicer unit. Our apartment had nasty carpet from the previous tenants, outlets that had no power, and an unkept yard because the landlord would not labdscape as agreed in our lease. We felt cheated and it reappy cut into our already slim budget. There are some positive things about ole Mike, when our a/c went out on a saturday he responded to my text in an hour and had a repairman out the next day. He was also quick to respond when the stove stopped working. If you deal with this guy my only advice is not to take his bullcrap yes man talk- he will tell you what you want to hear. Make it known that you aren't an idiot. His demeanor reminds me of a very successful salesman. Also he's a Trump supporter if that's something that's important for you to know.
