Property had extensive liability issues ...
Property had extensive liability issues for many years, mostly with deck that had stairs rotted through and broken, handrails only attached by two nails, deck railing rotted and coming apart, underside of deck where it attached to the house was rotted through, etc. We reported all issued to landlord, she never repaired unless something totally disintegrated (stairs twice and deck railing once). Was behind in rent a few times over the years, always paid, landlord was fine. Rented this place since 2005. Then, last winter (2016 to 2017), we were behind a bit again, made verbal agreement with landlord to catch up with tax return. She agreed, said it was fine. Had major snow, landlord came over unannounced, was furious that we hadn't cleared the deck of house off yet (snow cycle had just stopped), she began cleaning it off, was yelling, went out to talk to her, she said deck was going to "fall down" b/c we didn't clear snow and she didn't want the liability of having to repair it, but we told her that if the deck fell down, it would not be b/c of the snow, it would be b/c she never repaired it in the 12+ years we lived there. She completely lost it, said fine, then threatened to evict us, going back on her verbal agreement. This went on for a few months, we got our tax return, paid her, was only still behind $1300, would have had that paid in two months, but once landlord had that money, she proceeded with eviction. Prepared three day notices with inflated numbers. Process server she hired perjured herself by reporting more attempts at service than were done. Many mistakes on/in paperwork. When all was said and done, landlord evicted us illegally, no writ of possession. That was August 30, 2017. We had to leave in 20 minutes, have a disabled son, I am disabled. Had to leave family pets/assistance animals, they were seized by animal control. We have been fighting in court ever since. According to law, she is guilty of forcible entry and forcible detainer. Tried to keep our personal property. Charged us over double the amount she was allowed to by law. Do NOT EVER rent from this person. She will turn on you, even if you've been there for 12+ years, raising a family, pets, were never planning on moving. This landlord is NOT to be trusted.
