Roaches are a constant recurrence, water would get cut off repeatedly, and we would lose heat in the dead of winter.They started construction for a floor that COLLAPSED while I was there. Another tenant had their ceiling collapse on them. Tenants were not given a heads up and had to deal with the noise for the construction for months. Communication was extremely lacking, especially when things start breaking down (which was very often). The lower price really isn't worth the trouble & stress.
Knickerbocker conducted multiple post-move-out inspections of our unit, which correctly showed that our apartment was left clean and in good condition. Much later, after we had completed a move across the country, they came up with a bogus claim that our cat had urinated all over the house. Our cat never once went to the bathroom outside of his litter box. They basically stole our security deposit, asked for even more, and refused to listen to reason. Now I am worried we'll have trouble the next time we need a referral for renting. Thanks for nothing Knickerbocker.
Apartment was nice and they had good quick responses but that way about it. The walls were paper thin and we didn't know until after we moved in. They regularly would send an email at 7:00 P.M. or later saying that there would be a tour early in the morning the next day. When the lease was up, they kept $600 for a broken fridge and microwave handle and refused to send an invoice for the actual price of the parts.
Great communication with tenants, and super prompt with repairs. I can reach any number of the property managers by phone or text pretty much any time of day. The also are prompt with emails. I once locked myself out at 11pm on a weekend night, and management was so fast and helpful getting someone out to help me! They've also come by with emergency plumbing work the day before I was supposed to leave for vacation, which was a huge weight off my shoulders. Tom, Mike, and the rest of the Knickerbocker gang are super kind and willing to work with you. I would definitely live in another one of their properties (and plan to!)
I have never lived in a building that responded so quickly to inquiries of any kind. Maintenance issues are followed up sometimes the same day we send a request. Tom and the team are also committed to regularly updating their buildings, which is amazing considering their apartments are still within a graduate student budget. It has truly been such a pleasant experience living in both Pine Tower and Franklin Court, I would recommend them to anyone.
I have been living in The Larchmont for more than three years and have had great experience so far. The complex is in a safe neighborhood with easy access to restaurants, supermarkets and public transport. The common areas in the complex are clean and well kept. The management is wonderful as they are easy to work with and respond promptly to my concerns and maintenance requests. I highly recommend The Larchmont to anyone who is seeking for an apartment in University City area.
I have lived at Drexel Court now for a year and a half, and I am continually impressed by their quick response to maintenance calls and how friendly and personable they work with their clients! This was the perfect place to rent while going through nursing school, with the privacy of a studio, but the safety of the location and security of the locked gates and doors. I would recommend this place to any friend in a heart beat!
Have lived at the Drexel Court properties for close to a year and a half now. The management has updated almost the entire building and heating system so its more modern and up to date! They are constantly making updates and improvements. The price for the area and everything that is included is one of the most reasonable for a graduate student. And their maintenance is top notch! Especially Sean! This company is nothing but willing to fix any issues, and go to great lengths to make sure you're safe and comfortable.
This is by far the best property management group I have ever worked with. I have been in one of their properties for 3 years now and have loved every second of it. All maintenance requests and leasing questions are answered same day, usually same hour! Great team to work with!

I thought the team was really nice and I should say something. I've read that the only people who ever post things about landlords are those that don't get their security deposit back [deserved or not] and have an axe to grind. That's not true. I wanted to write because they always treated me with respect. If I had a concern or issue in my unit, they responded quickly. If my next landlord is as nice as the Knickerbocker team, I'll be a very happy tenant.
I had a great experience living at the property until the landlord entered my room and went through my possessions without notice or permission. Knickerbocker was unapologetic about this invasion of privacy and will not return my security deposit/ last month's rent.
If I could give them 0 stars, I would. This is by far the worst property management I have ever dealt with. They are rude, unprofessional, tried to rip us off with moving out costs, and always demanding. They also said they would have cleaning services in the building once a week and I just saw cleaning services once a year. Please stay away from these people as they will become your nightmare. By the way they delete bad reviews so this will be gone soon.
Totally worthwhile experience. Maintenance was totally responsive. They assigned me a liaison to personally help with my move in. Picked up my keys when I moved out. Mike, Sean, delia & Jon couldn't have been nicer.
Hi Tom! Good job on writing your own reviews! No one would EVER write a positive review for you. You are a definition of the worst landlord on Earth. Looking for water that doesn't run? Plumbing problems? Problems with pests (5-6 a week)? Waking up to bugs in your bed and shower? Be sure to contact Tom because he'll be sure to provide you with all of that! Seriously, do not fall for the positive reviews that he writes for himself. Especially if you want your security deposit back!
Good luck getting your security deposit back. After year 1 it took 3 months to get it back. The second year, we are still fighting to get it back. Entered our apartment numerous times (10+) without prior consent. Maintenance guy guy sexually harassed my girlfriend on numerous occasions. We had no running water for 5 days. They screwed the windows shut from the inside in the hallway so during the summer you can't open the windows for fresh air. In the winter they keep the heat below the legal limit until the city contacts them about the issue. There was a dead, half decayed,cat in the fire escape the entire 2 years I was a tenant here. WARNING : Avoid this property management company at ALL costs. Buildings are run down and outdated, infested with bugs and falling apart. Landlord and "maintenance" guy are rude and will remove your property from your apartment, and claim it was "stolen". Just don't do it.
