Gary Parks is a mentally unstable landlord. His mood is very up and down so you really never knew what side of him you would meet. I genuinely avoided him as much as possible and whenever he would come down stairs into our living space I went into my bedroom till he left. He would later apologize for being rude to you but then would repeat it again.
At the beginning, he notified us when he was coming into our space but within 2 weeks of renting he was coming into our space with no notice of any kind. Sometimes he would come down when he thought no one was home ( I was in my bedroom) and shortly after we would receive long, disrespectful and threatening texts about the condition of living space. He came off as very intense and paranoid. At first we acknowledge and respected but when we began to get these texts at midnight we realized it was getting weird.
A tenant gave him a 20 day notice, he turned around and gave her a 2 day notice and then called the police on her. He later apologized to her only to call the police on her again the day she moved out. In addition, he offered to pay her for massages. At one point he even offered to pay her to go to Portland with him over the weekend. Mind he is 60 and a college professor at Shoreline Community College and she is 25.
He smokes marijuana in his space, yet when the vents would turn on it would make our living spaces smell like marijuana.
He is up all hours of the night. Shortly after he called the police on 1 of the 3 tenants, the 2 of us gave him a 20 day notice. In no way were we comfortable renting from a landlord that did this to other tenants. Upon us giving our notice, he began to stomp around very loudly at all hours of the night making it difficult for us to get sleep in the downstairs unit. In addition, he became even more paranoid and "found more things wrong with downstairs". We believe this increased because he wanted a reason to keep our deposit. I moved out even before my 20 day notice because he increasingly became more unpredictable and I wanted out. He then charged me for an extra day of rent and a 50$ late fee for the day after I moved out in addition to one last final threatening text and name calling. I then simply blocked his number.
The last tenant is still there, thankfully he is moving out soon.
Over all, the man is weird. We tried to have compassion and be accommodating but his behavior increasingly made all 3 of us uncomfortable. I'm glad to not live there any longer.
