Slumlord will scam you out of security deposit!

Posted 2 months ago

This landlord will scam you out of your security deposit even if you leave the apartment in pristine condition and have video evidence of that!! They will send a purposefully vague itemized deduction of “cleaning and painting apartment $1800” and then keep your deposit. At their demand I painted the entire apartment myself only for them to claim it didn’t look good enough and then keep my deposit, it is all just a scam and if you search Ronen Flancraich you will see it is a common scam for them

Avoid at all costs

If anyone out there is reading this, do yourself a favor and look for an apartment elsewhere. I rented a unit owned by Ronen for six months, taking over for someone who had to break their lease. Due to COVID-19, I only actually lived there for 2.5 months and then left the city. Upon move-out inspection, this man told my husband he would take $300 out of our security deposit to "repaint". To be clear, we had done literally nothing to the apartment while we lived there. We should have gotten the $300 in writing from him, because I emailed him letting him know where to send the remaining $2,765 of our security deposit. I never got a response. And then I received in the mail a check for $2,085, with a note saying "After inspecting the apartment after you moved out completely, I found more work that needed to be done. The job was $900 + tax." He attached an invoice with ZERO information about what that work was. The very official-looking invoice has a description that just says "paint/repairs up and downstairs." The vagueness about what "repairs" he had to make is pretty suspicious. So, this guy found a way to steal $979 from us. He also doesn't seem to know that by NYC law, *landlords* are the ones responsible for repainting, not tenants. Even with all the difficulties of COVID-19, we still managed to make rent each month and mail it on time even though we weren't even living at this unit. We didn't ask for rent forgiveness because we wanted to uphold our end of our agreement. "Slope Management", on the other hand, found loopholes and a way to fleece us out of our security deposit because he didn't want to spend his own money on "repairs". Also, this place had a weird smell coming out of the vents.
